Oncology Skin Care

Oncology Skin CareFor Dry stressed skin
Common side effects with current chemotherapy and targeted therapies include skin issues, including rashes, hand foot syndrome or hand foot skin reaction. Affected areas should be kept moisturized, soft and pliable to prevent peeling, cracks and breaks in the skin. Consult your health care professional for specific guidance.

Many clinics suggest applying moisturizers to the skin in the weeks prior to your scheduled treatment. This will allow the skin to be in optimal condition prior to the challenges of radiation. Speak with your medical support staff for their guidelines during radiation treatment. Typically, the Udderly Smooth Moisturizer of choice is either Udderly Smooth Hand Cream or Udderly Smooth Body Cream.

Hand Foot Syndrome or Palmar-Plantar Erythrodysesthesia

Oral and infusion chemotherapy drugs (epidermal growth factor receptor or EGFR’s) can affect the skin on the hands and feet. This side effect is known as: Hand-foot syndrome (HFS), or palmar-plantar erythrodysesthesia (PPE), hand-foot syndrome or hand-to-foot syndrome. Palmar-Plantar Erythrodysesthesia can result in tenderness, redness, tingling and peeling of the skin on the palms and soles.

Many individuals are finding relief using Udderly Smooth® Body Cream or Udderly Smooth Foot Cream with Shea butter on their hands and feet to keep their skin moisturized and to prevent peeling and cracking of the skin. Udderly Smooth® is included in patient starter kits for several chemotherapy drugs and recommended by clinics, nurses, pharmacists and oncology professionals for use on Hand Foot Syndrome. Consult with your health care professional before using Udderly Smooth® on your skin.

Many clinics are also using creams that contain urea to address hand foot syndrome- your oncology profession may also suggest the use of Udderly Smooth® Extra Care Cream which contains 10% urea and is also fragrance free.
